How We Rate Betting Sites

Every betting site reviewed on Viridistore is assessed using our proprietary 50-point evaluation framework developed by James Whitfield and the editorial team. Below, we explain exactly what we test, how we score it, and why each factor matters to real users.
1. Licensing & Security (15 points)
The most important factor in any operator review is regulatory compliance. We verify:
- Active UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) licence — checked directly against the public UKGC register
- SSL/TLS encryption on all pages, especially deposit and account pages
- Clear segregation of player funds from operational accounts
- Published responsible gambling policies and self-exclusion tools
- Data protection compliance under UK GDPR
An operator without a valid UKGC licence is automatically excluded from our listings.
2. Withdrawal Speed & Payment Methods (12 points)
We test deposit and withdrawal processing using real accounts. We assess:
- Range of supported payment methods (cards, e-wallets, bank transfer, crypto)
- Actual processing times vs. published estimates
- Minimum and maximum deposit/withdrawal limits

Score Calculation
All 50 points are totalled and converted to a score out of 10.0. Operators scoring below 6.0 are not recommended. Operators scoring 9.0+ earn our "Top Rated" badge. Scores are reviewed quarterly or when significant changes occur at an operator.
